Our project has been developed considering this natural and wild environment, the cabins not only doesn’t interfere with this aspect of the location, but wants to create a close contact with it.

The first concept was to create a cabin that could be replicated and adapted to any context within the forest.

This  purpose  could  not  be accomplished just with color and material, instead was necessary to create a shape not only is matching the environment but also want be a part of it. To achieve this effect, we decided to take inspiration from the main element of the area: the trees. Indeed, thinking about the silhouette of the Nordic pine and taking inspiration from its trunk we developed a conic building concept that almost disappears inside the forest. Since the amount of need furniture for a short stay is limited we designed a circular plan, avoiding corners and maximizing the usable space.

All the main structural components are made with local wood to keep a reasonable cost in term of resource, the structure outer layer is covered with wooden slats, which are able to transform the building into a mimetic element once inside the forest.

The choice of how separate the functions, dictated by the need to have a quiet place for guest to meditate and to reconnect with nature, has fallen to have separated spaces for living accommodation and services and the meditation building. The final result is composed by three buildings with a living pod connected to the meditation building that is a separate entity in order to create a detached and neutral element where the guest can deeply meditate without interferences and where light and nature create the ambience itself. These components are externally connected between one another by a wooden platform on which the building itself lays, thus giving these zones a cohesive and unique feeling. This area is meant to be an open-air additional space of the buildings where to relax with the only sounds of nature in front of the fireplace.

The largest building, the living pod, was designed to be a simple open space that meets all the needs of the visitor with a little kitchen and an area where relax, draw or write, the bed is suspended to take advantage of space at its best. The restroom is placed in another smaller room connected to the living place, from the outside the two shapes intersect each other.

For the meditation room we designed be a quiet and minimal place, without need of disturbing elements and more focused on the research of an inner peace. The small and tall windows on the sides are thought as viewfinder for the surrounding envoiorement, allowing the user to focus on the detail instead of a bigger and more complex envoiorement.

The wall layers of the buildings were developed focusing on the climatic characteristics of the area, on its cold winters and warm summers, with a wool insulation layer that, together with the slim interior cork finishing and to the shape of the building itself, can perfectly control the interior temperature. A system of solar panels attached to the nearby trees has been developed in order to have artificial light and electricity inside the cabin and rainwater is collected and stored in a tank placed under the platform.Lighting plays a vital role in the way people experience a space, that’s why the buildings are illuminated zenithally and sideways by natural light, using the light itself to enhance the strong emotional feelings of the stay.

Furthermore, these openings towards the outside allow a constant vision of the external environment from different but specific point of view.
